Antiviral Medications
Zovirax® (acyclovir), Cytovene® (ganciclovir), and Valcyte® (valganciclovir)
| Purpose | Used to prevent or treat viral (herpes) infections often found in the mouth or genital area.

| Dosage | Zovirax is available in capsules of 200mg and 800mg. Available in liquid formulation at a 200mg/5cc concentration.
Adult dosage is typically 200 to 800mg taken 3 to 4 times per day for 3 months following transplantation.
Pediatric dosage is based on body weight.

| When | If you miss a dose of any of these medications, take it as soon as you can. Do not double dose. |
| Common Side Effects | Side effects are rare but can include lowered white blood cell count. |
